🏠Regicide

Regicide is an example of a cooperative game that works great as a solo game. It was designed by Paul Abrahams, Luke Badger, and Andy Richdale, with rules freely available online.

Winning involves clearing the castle of all 12 royal cards, starting with the four jacks valued at 10, then the four queens valued at 15, and finally the four kings valued at 20.

The suit of each royal matters because it cancels the "power" of an attacking card's suit. Clubs deal double damage, diamonds allow you to replenish cards up to the eight card hand limit provided there are sufficient cards in the "tavern", hearts replenish the tavern from the discard deck, and spades reduce the current royal's attack value.

Each turn involves playing a card or a legal combination of cards to reduce the current royal card's health, and then discarding cards valued at equal or more than the royal's attack value.

Legal combinations are an ace with another card, preferably of a different suit because then both suit powers are applied. Same value cards can also be combined provided their total value doesn't exceed 10.

If a combination includes a heart and a diamond, the tavern is replenished before the hand is refilled assuming the suit's power hasn't been cancelled by the royal.

In my web version of this game, indicate you are happy with your attack combination by clicking on the castle deck, and similarly with the cards you have selected to pay damage.

Reducing a royal's health to exactly 0 is beneficial because then it goes to the top of the tavern to be used by the player for the rest of the game, else it is out of play.

There are two jokers which can be tapped to get a fresh hand provided there are eight more cards in the tavern.

Clearing the castle without using a joker is a gold victory, using a joker reduces it to a silver victory, and using both jokers to a bronze victory.
