🏠He Will Never Stop
This is a horror themed solitaire card game designed by Zoë Cappallo with the rules available on his website and there's a YouTube video.
The number of cards in your hand represents the distance between you and a psycho killer called "Him". You start with eight cards. If you run out, the killer has caught you and you lose the game.
At the start of each turn, the killer closes the gap because the leftmost card gets discarded. If the card is part of an at least three card run, the killer moves faster because he takes another step by discarding the next leftmost card. The designer tweaked the game to have runs be descending instead of ascending (possibly because the video seems to have a mistake in the opening round where a second card should have been discarded). I kept it to the original ascending because I find counting up easier.
After the killer's pursuit round ends, you can take one of two actions:
- Swap cards with the deck by discarding any card. All cards of that rank get discarded and replaced with the same number of fresh cards from the deck added to the right-hand side of your hand. This is called searching.
- Move a card in your hand to a new position. This posed a bit of a UI challenge for me. Whatever card was previously there shifts right. You may not move a card if it is part of a three-card run. If by moving a card you create a three card run, two fresh cards from the deck are added to the right of your hand. This is called trying to escape.
The game can be won in two ways:
- Create a set of four cards of the same rank next to each other in your hand.
- Survive until the draw deck is exhausted.
